Dorothy Gale was born on May 7th, 1892. The events of the Chronicles of Oz book series (or the parts of them that are historically accurate) occurred in the first decade of the 1900s, when Dorothy was between eight to eighteen years old. She refers to the movie as "cute", but aside from the song being pretty and Judy Garland being pretty, she doesn't like it very much. She is aware that she is a fictional character.

Dorothy is, above all things, curious. She loves asking questions and learning new things and exploring new places. Making friends is one of the things she enjoys most out of life. She's a clever person, but she's more or less laconic. She tries her best to say as little as she can, especially about herself. She is extremely loyal to her friends, and will put herself into positions of extreme danger to help anyone she can, even (potentially) risking her life. Dorothy Gale does not lie. She believes in the basic goodness of human nature, and does not believe in "fate" or "destiny". She thinks that everyone has potential to be the best that they can.

Most of the events of the first several decades of her life are private, but several things she has admitted to are: being in prison in the late 20s for smuggling alcohol, struggling to help keep the family farm afloat during the Great Depression and eventually losing it, undergoing some unspecified trauma during World War II, and the late 1960s-early 1970s being "kind of a blur".

She does not age, she does not get sick, she does not drink alcohol, smoke, or dance, and she cannot die. Even mentioning sex makes her extremely uncomfortable (and why shouldn't it? She's a children's story, after all). She has never been in love and does not want to be. She has valid reasons for all of these things, but she won't discuss much of it.

As far as what's happened to her on her first trip to Oz, Dorothy considers what happened to the Wicked Witch of the West to be a very touchy subject. Anyone attempting to casually discuss this with her is just as likely to get a mouthful of fist as anything else. She's vaguely familiar with the characters and worlds of "Wicked" and "Son Of A Witch", having come across several versions of Liir in her travels, and while she feels bad about what happened (and certainly about the state of their Ozes), she knows it is not her world and tries not to get involved.

She has made many friends in many places from many backgrounds, and as long as she is alive she will continue to explore and learn and ask question after question. It's what she's good at.
